Indian Coast Guard holds oil spill course for friendly nations

Chennai: Indian Coast Guard has conducted Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation Course for friendly foreign countries in Chennai.

According to an official release, the course had two levels as categorised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). 42 delegates from Iran, Comoros, Thailand, Somalia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Kenya, Srilanka, Maldives, Oman, Seychelles, Bangladesh, South Africa, Vietnam, Madagascar, Yemen and Nigeria participated in the two-weeks course. Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of government of India sponsored this Course. Delegates from various maritime agencies of respective countries have participated in the course.

‘The participants during the course were subjected to both theoretical aspects of oil spill response techniques, and practical live-demo of response methods, shoreline cleanup techniques and air surveillance procedures,’ it added.
