Power project case: CBI searches at 14 places

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation conducted searches at 14 locations including at Jammu, Srinagar, Delhi, Mumbai, Noida, Thiruvananthapuram and Darbhanga in Bihar at the premises of the accused including private companies, then chairman, then MD, then directors of Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited.

CVPPPL is a Joint Venture Company between NHPC having 51 per cent stake and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited having 49 per cent stake formed at the initiative of Government of J&K and Government of India to harness the vast hydro potential of river Chenab.

CBI had registered two separate cases on the request from Jammu and Kashmir Government on the allegations of malpractices in award of contract of J&K Employees Health Care Insurance Scheme to private company and release of 60 crore rupees (approx.) in the year 2017-18 and award of the contract worth 2,200 crore rupees (approx.) of civil works of Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP) to a private firm in the year 2019.
