New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal today attacked the BJP over the ‘postponement’ of municipal elections, saying that AAP will quit politics if BJP gets these polls conducted timely and wins them.
In a series of tweets, he dared the BJP to let the State Election Commission ‘conduct the MCD polls on time’, asking if elections can be postponed on the pretext of merging the three municipal corporations.
‘If you [BJP] have the courage, conduct MCD elections on time and win [the civic polls]. If we lose, we will leave politics,’ Arvind Kejriwal said.
‘It [BJP] considers itself to be the world’s largest party. [But] you are now scared of a small party and a small election in Delhi. What courage do you have?,’ he added.
On Tuesday, the SEC officials said that the announcement of the schedule for the civic body polls will depend on the amended Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. The Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, is likely to be tabled in Parliament next week.
