Chennai: Tamilnadu’s daily Covid-19 tally continued to fall on Sunday, as the State reported 2,296 new cases while recoveries outnumbered fresh infections.

As many as 461 persons tested positive in the city on Sunday. Coimbatore recorded 432 fresh cases, Chengalpattu 208, Erode 134, Tiruppur 113 and Salem 109. Tiruvallur’s daily tally dropped below 100 with 92 persons testing positive for the virus. Tiruvallur along with 31 districts logged fewer than 100 cases each.

Among the 6,554 active cases, only 700 people needed hospitalization in Covid hospitals and care centres. The remaining active cases are in home quarantine.

As many as 8,229 people were cured of the virus, with the total recoveries mounting to 33,56,648.

In the last 24 hours, 11 people died due to Covid-19, taking the cumulative death toll in the state to 37,915. All the 11 patients had comorbidities.
