Close on the heels of Sivakarthikeyan graduating as hero from small screen, came Priya Bhavani Shankar from the television industry. Having been part of a few sitoms, she is today a popular heroine with half-a-dozen films in her kitty.

Speaking to News Today, she says, “I am happy where I stand now. Being part of the small screen helped me reach many households. I was already familiar among masses before my debut film (Meyadha Maan) got released.”

Her next, Monster, is releasing 17 May. She shares the screen with S J Suryah and the movie is directed by Nelson Venkadesan.

Excerpts from her interview:

Q: Tell us about Monster?
A: It is a hilarious entertainer. It is about a rat that makes a man’s life very difficult. I play a simple girl who works in a jewellery shop. It is a meaty role and I enjoyed being part of the project.

Q: On sharing the screen with SJ Suryah?
A: Everyone knows that he is a talented artiste. Initially, I was scared of SJ Suryah sir because I have heard he is a taskmaster. But he is super cool on the sets. Learnt a lot working with him.

Q: On your transformation from small to the big screen?
A: Acting in small screen helped me reach many households. I got many offers in cinema then. But nothing impressed me. So, I was waiting for a good script. I had no second thoughts when I was chosen to be part of Meyadha Maan, a production venture of Karthik Subbaraj. It gave me the right identity. And success followed me with Kadai Kutty Singam.

Q: How do you choose your films?
A: I always go for good stories. And I look for the production banner too. If the script appeals to me, I will not hesitate to act. I always believe content is the king.

Q: What are your forthcoming films?
A: After Monster, I’ll be acting in Kuruthi Aatam alongside Atharvaa, there is a movie with Jiiva and Arulnithi and Vaan with Dulquer Salman. These films are different from each other.

Q: Will you accept glamourous roles?
A: Being glamorous can still mean decently attired. But, definitely, I am not for skin show.
