Kochi: In a kind gesture, the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy handed over the keys of newly constructed houses to three families in Cheriya Kadmakkudi that was badly hit by last years devastating floods. The houses were constructed at a total cost of Rs 28 lakh sponsored by the Indian Navy.
This was a part of the rehabilitation activities being undertaken by the Southern Naval Command after August 2018 foods. The families received the house keys fro Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command. He was accompanied by president of Navy Wives Welfare Association (Southern Region) Sapana Chawla and a few other senior officers.
According to media reports, the project was handled by INS Venduruthy and it was completed within a span of five-and-a-half months. Following this, all the 55 houses of Cheriya Kadmakkudi would be installed with solar power equipment.
Also heeding to the continuous request of the residents, it was announced that a steel arch bridge connecting Cheriya Kadamakudi with Pizhala Island would be constructed and the foundation stone for the infrastructure facility was laid by the Commanding-in-Chief. Vehicles up to 4 tonne would be able to ply on this bridge, thus providing the much-needed connectivity to the villagers, said media reports.
