Chennai: To reach out to more people as part of their election campaign, the DMK Sriperumbudur IT wing has come up with a novel idea of sending stickers of their candidate T R Baalu through WhatsApp.

Baalu with DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi and party president M K Stalin are some of the stickers making the rounds on WhatsApp for the past few days.

Speaking to News Today, a member of the DMK IT wing said they have been making and circulating stickers for quite a while now.

“We made stickers for Stalin’s birthday. But now we will be using it for the election canvassing of our candidate. At present, we have made about 12 stickers seeking votes for Baalu, and more will follow,” he said.

He further said the IT wing is also planning to create stickers that will high the achievements of Baalu during his tenure as MP.

“The infrastructure developments such as the Kathipara bridge will be made as sticker and used for propaganda. Apart from this, the plaques with Baalu’s name, with various schemes inaugurated by him, will also be used as stickers to seek votes,” the cadre added.

He further said just like Sriperumbudur, the DMK IT wing in other districts will also be undertaking such campaigns for their candidates.

Asked if there was any restrictions from the Election Commission about the usage of social media for election campaigning, the cadre said so far there was no instruction or restriction on social media.
