Chennai: Of the 16 Lok Sabha elections conducted in Krishnagiri, the Congress has won seven times in 1951, 1957, 1971, 1980, 1984, 1989 and 1991.
Similarly, the DMK has won five times in 1962, 1967, 1999, 2004 and 2009. The TMC that fought in the DMK alliance, won in 1996. The AIADMK won in 1977, 1998 and 2014.
AIADMK’s K Ashok Kumar is the incumbent MP of the constituency. This time, AIADMK heavyweight K P Munusamy has been fielded in the constituency against Congress’ A Chellakumar, who came second in the last election.
The Krishnagiri parliamentary constituency comprises Uthangarai, Bargur, Krishnagiri, Vepanahalli, Hosur and Thalli constituencies.
