Kollam: Mysore University bestowed honorary doctorate of letters to Mata Amritanandamayi for her contribution to spiritual education and social work.

The event was held on the Amritapuri ashram premises on Saturday. The university Vice-Chancellor G Hemantha Kumar conferred her the D Litt.  The function was attended by Union minister of state for Health and Family Welfare Ashwani Kumar Choubey. 

The spiritual leader said there was a need to ensure that academic research and science remained rooted in spiritual values such as truth, righteousness and compassionate service to the poor.
