Chidambaram: Around 20,000 people carrying pots filled with salt water will receive Governor Banwarilal Purohit during his visit to attend the graduation day ceremony of Annamalai University 25 November.

Prior to that, the residents of the town will besiege Chidambaram railway station, seeking various demands, including drinking water.

The protest is organised by Chidambaram Merchants Association and Kollidam Checkdam Group. The merchants association president Murugappan, secretary Sathish Kumar, Kollidam group coordinators Shanmugam and Senguttuvan said they will be protesting to get the attention of the State government through the Governor.

They said their protest is against the non-contruction of Kollidam checkdam for a long period, the issue of salt water intrusion in their villages and against trains not halting at Chidambaram station.
