Chennai: Nearly 37 sovereigns of gold was stolen from the house of a retired Special Sub-Inspector of police (SSI) at Velacheri.
According to the police, burglars struck at the residence of Devaraj (66), a resident of Lakshmi Nagar, Velacheri.
While he lived on the ground floor, his son and family occupied the first floor.
Yesterday, the family went to attend a funeral and returned by night. They found someone had broken into the house and decamped with 37 sovereigns of gold kept in a bureau.
Devaraj, who retired from police service three years ago, has filed a complaint. Velacheri police have registered a case.
