Chennai: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered an interim stay on going ahead with the neutrino project in Theni district of Tamilnadu.
The much awaited ruling was passed this morning.
The case was filed by NGO Poovulagin Nanbargal against the neutrino project of the Government of India, stating that it would ruin the ecology of the area and deprive people of their livelihood.
The NGO argued that the NGT should act against the permission granted by the Union Environment Ministry clearing the project that would involve digging deep tunnels under the mountains.
Now, the NGT has ordered an interim stay on the project.
